This design is recommended by some as better option to use over the small splitter that comes with type 1 cooling shrouds. It offers improved flow around the cylinder cooling fins by more completely directing the air around the cylinder. That’s the idea and it seems to work as this is what VW put on the type 3s.

They work perfect . They require a little tweaking and yes they need painted as they only have black primer on them
