D30 is comfortable and provides the protection needed. You can wear these all day. I like the confidence it gives my son when riding and the confidence it gives me that his skin is going to stay where it belongs in the case of a crash.

I bought the elbow guard pair for a kid who took on lift-assisted trails at a resort, where the speeds are higher, features are more challenging (ramps, jumps, drops), and the risk of injury goes up. The elbow guards were also used for single-track and cross-country bike rides. The positives:- the guard is easy to put on and adjust- the protective pad is large enough to over the elbow and forearm- the pad also stays in place well during a day’s worth of MTB descentsThe nitpick:- the guard can get warm during summer riding. Putting a T-shirt with long-sleeves under the guards helps absorb some of the moisture and avoid chaffing. This is less of an issue on resort trails which are mostly downhill and where ventilation is more abundant. But on single-track and XC riding, you may have a kid who wants something lighter for protection.Bottom line:- For downhill MTB riding, these are solid, comfortable, and easy-to-put-on elbow guards.
