I was impressed with this product!I purchased this to cover my vintage BMW motorcyclewhile it had to be temporarily stored on an outdoor patio area,While it resided out of doors it rained almost daily, sometimes in torrents.This cover kept the water away from the bike and kept the sun from baking it when the sun came back out.The Beemer was outside for almost 4 months and this cover held up well and did everything it was supposed to do, and did it well.While the bike is back indoors, I still use this cover when it is not being ridden.And I just purchased another one for my Vintage Honda Bagger, though it is the 2XL one.And having, today, unboxed and deployed the new 2XL size on my Vintage Honda SilverWing InterstateI am even more impressed. This cover fits my bike like it was made for it! So happy with the purchase of both of these covers! I highly recommend Nelson-Rigg Motorcycle covers.

There are people who are reviewing this product poorly because they bought the wrong thing. This isn’t a cover for storing your motorcycle outside. It is too lightweight and the fabric isn’t suitable for that. But, if you need a travel cover, well…this is hard to beat.I tour often and for multiple days on my motorcycle. I don’t camp (although this would be good for that too). On some nights when I pull into my motel I leave the bike uncovered. But, when on our California coast where it’s foggy, or during our spring and fall months when the dew point indicates fog I do like it covered. On other nights, even though the weather may be nice and dry, I’ll cover the bike if I can’t park it right in front of my room. Other motel customers will park their vehicles next to my motorcycle and often those are big SUV’s or pick-up trucks. My last cover, like so many others has a black top and silver bottom. The problem, whether black, dark red or dark blue, or uncovered is that some customer in a hurry to get to their room is going to see what he or she thinks is an empty spot between two large vehicles only to find my motorcycle there and possibly strike it. I’ve been lucky so far, but I’ve seen close calls with other motos in the motels I’ve stayed at.So, I was looking for something much more visible and came upon the Nelson Rigg Defender Deluxe in Hi-Vis yellow. And, wow…is it a lot of yellow! Just perfect! When deciding which size to buy I became confused. My bike measured about 98″ long, but Nelson Riggs chat room person told me that I needed a XXL for my bike. I Google searched for quite awhile and found another person with my same bike who confirmed that yes, the XXL was the correct size. But, on the chart, it shows the XXL as being 125″ long. I ride an 18′ BMW R1200 RT with sidecases, top box and Ilium engine and sidecase guards and when the cover arrived, the XXL fit perfectly.The cover is well made…I went over the stitching and it looks fine. The grommets for the fastening hooks are heavy duty and re-enforced. The ripstop-like material is without runs or other flaws and the elastic at the bottom of the cover feels strong, giving good protection from the wind blowing the cover off. It appears to be well made.The cover isn’t water proof, but it’ll keep a light rain at bay. The fabric isn’t heat proof either. Not from your exhaust pipes or from leaving it out in the sun for days. I always let the engine cool and normally wait until the sun is setting before covering my bike in a motel.Motorcycle touring comes with cargo space limitations and whether to carry a cover for a big bike or not is a consideration. The Nelson Rigg cover comes with a nice compression bag. It is very effective at reducing the size of the cover for packing. My repacking size (not the one advertised by the manufacturer) is 9.5″ high with a diameter of 6.5″.There is one very minor thing that I don’t like. The fastening hooks that extend under the moto and between the grommets are coated metal with rubber tips. My experience is that those tips are going to fall off and the metal hooks will scratch my paint. The problem was easily solved. They are gone now and have been replaced by plastic hooks from an old cargo net.I like this cover. I’m sure I’ll use it for many years worth of touring. And, I’ll sleep better knowing that my hotel neighbors will see my bike when they park their vehicle.
